How to Tell if an HVAC Contractor’s Reviews Are Real or Fake

All contractors depend on the trust and patronage given to them by their clients, and reviews and testimonials are one of the best ways to learn about the quality of services a company can give. Technology has made this process easier through online reviews. However, some companies make themselves look good by including fake reviews on their website or social pages.

In this post, commercial AC maintenance company Air Products & Services shares a few tips on how you can spot fake reviews and avoid dishonest contractors.

Exaggerated Claims

While positive reviews are common, some fake reviews use over-enthusiastic words and phrases to describe the quality of the services provided to them by the company. Real reviews typically use the words “good”, “great” and “excellent” sparingly and use them to describe certain parts of the service that were notable. Fake reviews, on the other hand, use these words more frequently and stick them everywhere they can to aggressively sell the company via exaggerated claims.

Repeating Words and Phrases

When you’re scrolling down and scanning reviews to confirm information about a company, fake testimonies typically repeat words and phrases in a certain pattern. For example, you might see the same sentence describing the air conditioning installation service in multiple reviews. This is a red flag you should pay attention to as the fake reviewers are likely utilizing keywords and phrases to hype the company while increasing the number of reviews. Think of it as spamming the website with false statements to make people click on them more.

Frequency of Reviews

Take note of the time frame when the reviews were published. Genuine reviews are posted at random times without any discernible pattern. Fake reviews, however, usually bombard the website with positive reviews and ratings in a specific period. Some fake reviewers also use scheduled review posting, like one week after the last service or longer. When you’re scanning the pages, always take note of the frequency of reviews and how they’re worded to check if they’re real or fake.
